Anti-Tarnish Argentium® Sterling Silver Jewelry

Argentium® Sterling Silver is real sterling silver -- it is 925 parts out of 1000 silver, or .925. By law, to be called sterling silver, any alloy (blend of metals) has to be 925 parts out of 1000 silver, and the rest can be any other metal. Traditional sterling silver uses copper as the other 075 parts of the sterling. This makes for a strong sterling silver, but unfortunately, as we all know, it tarnishes readily.

Argentium® Sterling Silver is a trademarked and patented alloy that uses a combination of copper and Germanium to make up the 075 parts of the sterling silver. The Germanium in the Argentium® forms a clear oxide on the metal, protecting it from tarnishing. The longer the Argentium® is exposed to air, the more tarnish-resistant it becomes. So we now have a genuine sterling silver that is highly tarnish resistant. That's great news for us lovers of silver!

Argentium® Sterling Silver Jewelry Care is virtually the same as traditional sterling silver care. You can use a polishing cloth to lightly polish your Argentium® jewelry, clean it with gentle soap and lukewarm water, or have it professionally cleaned. The biggest difference is that you must have a polishing cloth or other cleaning items reserved especially for Argentium® to keep traditional sterling or other metals from contaminating it.
