Jewelry > A Custom Jewelry Tale
Many have asked about my custom jewelry creation and how it works. So I thought I'd share a little tale of how the piece on the left came to be. Of course, the details of how each piece of custom jewelry is made will vary because you're different from anyone else, and so will be your handmade jewelry!
This piece originated in my email box. I got an email from a lady saying, "Would it be possible for you to create a pin or pendant that could assist me in my concerns? My areas of concern are: the need for physical health, especially cardiac and musculo-skeletal health, lack of self-esteem and self-confidence, a highly stressful job, the need to cope with and/or get over a tremendous guilt complex, and the need for joy in my life. HAHA! Is that a request or what? I would love to use one of your beautiful pieces for crystal healing in conjunction with other healing avenues." She didn't have any particular stones in mind, or colors, or stones, and wasn't even that picky about what type of jewelry.
Well, that was a "request or what"! But I knew I could do it. So I sat down and made a list of stones that I felt are said by intuitive sources to be helpful for those energies, then did some additional research on stones. Then I did a meditation on what stones would be best to use out of those, or any others my higher self would suggest. Apparently my higher self isn't always "practical" when it comes to number of stones, and I came up with what seemed to me to be a huge list. I was a little daunted by the 20 or so types of stones that seemed right to use. How on earth would I get all of them into any one piece of jewelry?!?!?!
I refused to be intimidated, so I sat down at my jewelry table and set out all the possible stones on my list, along with sterling wire and my basic tools. I said a prayer for Divine assistance, and then I started. Much to my amazement, it just came together without a hitch. It was almost like I was taking dictation in wire and stones! A well-known technique for sculpting one cabochon with wire turned into a frame for 5 cabochons. (Five! I've never tried that before!) Stone beads became droplets of color and decorations for the cabochon frame. Both pin and pendant felt appropriate, so instead of choosing just one, I made it into a pin that had a converter included so it can also be worn as a pendant. I just couldn't stop until it was done.
But when it was done, I knew it was right. Sure, enough, she loved it! As Hannibal in the old "A Team" series used to say, "I love it when a plan comes together." Thus, a truly unique piece of custom jewelry was born.
Of course, I'm happy to do custom work with more information too! Sizes, stones, specific types of jewelry, thoughts, notes about other pieces you like, all of that can be helpful too. The tale of this piece is just an example of one way that I work to create custom jewelry.
